T he Seychelles – a group of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean – is famed for its warm climate and abundance of fun activities to try. Only a few are habitable, but there is enough to do in the region’s capital Victoria alone to keep you occupied for weeks. Other than keeping cool in picturesque hotels such as Kempinski Seychelles and lounging on the perfect beaches, the Seychelles has many other activities to offer its many visitors.
Here are just a few.
Visit the Aldabra Atoll
The Aldabra is one of the largest coral atolls in the world, and visiting it is definitely a must-do activity. Spanning 22 miles, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is basically untouched and completely uninhabited, meaning that the fauna population is positively thriving. The atoll is also the natural home of the famous giant tortoise – over 100,000 of them live in and around the coral – with hammerhead sharks and manta ray also commonplace in the waters.
See the world’s largest seeds at Vallée de Mai
To get a taste of the land time forgot, head straight to Vallée de Mai nature reserve. This huge palm forest is relatively untouched, meaning it is very similar to prehistoric times, and is sometimes referred to as a ‘real life Garden of Eden’. The reserve – located on the island of Praslin – is also home to the coco de mer, one of the largest seeds in the whole plant kingdom.
Game Fishing
With water temperatures around Mahé Island usually between 24 and 30 degrees Celcius, it is the perfect environment for water sports and deep-sea diving. With over 300 marine species also in residence, divers will be particularly impressed by the 30 metres of underwater visibility. Don’t forget to pack the snorkel and flippers!
